I finished Work Experience!

Currently, still not sure if I enjoyed it or not. I know I've come out on the good side, I've now got some retail experience. People will actually be interested when I apply for jobs now because I have retail experience.

Of course, some of the workers there were complete knobs. What did you expect really? You just tend to move on, you just know that you're gonna come across these types of people in retail.

Oh, well, I don't really have all that much else to say about it. I'm just glad I'm out of there, until I find a job in retail of course...

So moving on. I've just finished chapter 7 of Do You Remember me? Do you want me to tell you the current word count? I'm quite proud of it. It's 9,025. That's quite a bit considering I usually lose motivation to write the story by now.

Here it is:

Chapter 7.

“Who’re you?” I asked as soon as a new group of strangers came in. They were dressed casually, the man, looked rather ragged, his clothes weren’t done up probably. He looked like he’d come in a rush.
“Danny, I’m Maggie. Your Mother.” Blow number one. I didn’t recognize her at all. I could tell that hurt her.
            “I’m Jim, your father.”
“Jamie. Your sister.” So this was my family. I didn’t know what to say, they all looked depressed at the fact that I couldn’t remember them. Jamie kept shooting me these glances, I didn’t know what to do about them, so I ignored them.
            “Hi.” I said lamely.
“How’re you feeling?” Maggie, my mother, apparently, asked.
“I’m not too sure, yet. I don’t like it here.”
“Right. Well, you can come home with us tomorrow. The doctors said that they just wanted to keep an eye on you for the night. Just to be safe.” This conversation just screamed awkward. How was I supposed to make a conversation? I didn’t even know what to talk to them about.
“Okay. I’ll look forward. Anything’s better than this place.” I replied. I thought maybe some humour would help the conversation.
“Why’s that?” Jamie probed. Obviously humour wasn’t accepted.
“Just a gut feeling, that’s all.” I replied.
“Do you remember anything about what happened?” Jim asked suddenly. To be honest, I should have really expected this question to come.
“The first thing I remember is waking up in this ranch house not too far out of town.”
“How long ago was that?” Maggie asked. They all wanted to probe, I guess. It’s probably going to be a good thing to not tell them about the pot. I don’t think they’d appreciate that.
“A few days ago. I lost track.”
            “Where were you?” Maggie continued.
“I spent some time with this guy. He was really good to me.” I replied. I didn’t think much of mentioning where I’d spent my time, just with who and what I’d been doing was what I didn’t want to share. I wonder if I was always this guarded around my family.
            “What was his name?”
“If I told you, he’d kill me.” I guess I answered it with the dead serious look I was hoping for. They looked shocked, they were curious to know who I’d gotten mixed up with now. I hoped John was alright. That no bad had come to him.
A few hours passed, my family told me a few things about me. I wanted to do Geography. I didn’t know what that was. Apparently stuff to do with maps. I don’t know. They didn’t really explain it. They told me how I’d always wanted a puppy and they’d never let me have one, apparently Jamie was allergic to their fur. I’d cried. Apparently. By this time, I was well and truly in need of a joint. I could feel the burning need in my body, growing stronger and stronger as the conversation got on. They must have noticed too by the fact that I was becoming more and more resigned in the conversation. They didn’t say anything about it even if they did notice. I was grateful for that. I didn’t realise how late it had gotten until:
“Visiting hours are over, you’ll have to come back in the morning. Visiting hours begin at nine, you can take Danny home then, if he makes the night.” Obviously she could tell I was okay, really, I’d only just lost my memories and gotten a fair number of cuts and bruises.
The guy who x-rayed told me that it looked like I’d fractured my wrists and arms a number of times over the year. They’d luckily all healed right, so there wasn’t any major damage, I just needed to be careful. He’d also said, I’d broken a few ribs in the past year, and at least an ankle. He said I was lucky to still be walking, let alone alive.
The worse part apparently came from the head. I’d fractured my skull in two places, which was probably the reason my memories had gone. He was pretty sure they would probably come back. He said he wasn’t sure how long it’d take, but if they were going to start coming back it’d be soon. Over a month or so.
“Right. Well, we’ll see you tomorrow, Danny.” Maggie told me as the nurse left the room. It was the nice nurse. The one that took me for the x-ray.
“Yeah. Bye, Danny.” Jamie said, smiling.
“Bye, Dan.” Jim added, they all walked out of the room. I could tell by the way they walked that they’d relaxed a bit over the last couple of hours. I was glad for that. I didn’t want to disappoint them, upset them over memory loss.

An hour or so had passed since my family had left me. I’d been thinking, trying to cover the constant nag or a joint. I couldn’t really get around to calling Maggie and Jim, Mom and Dad. I didn’t know why. It just didn’t seem natural yet. I hope they won’t be too mad about that.
I knew it was going to be increasingly hard now to get a joint in. I’d have to sneak out and get one. I also knew that John wouldn’t be there for me anymore. I put him at risk. He wouldn’t want to see me anymore. I’d have to go to the porter. He’d give me some. I’d have to get some money from Maggie. I didn’t have any. Inspector Malcolm probably took the money that was on me. He probably knew it wasn’t mine. He’d probably also taken my stash. I hoped he didn’t show it to my family.

Maggie, Jim and Jamie left the hospital with smiles on their faces. They’d finally gotten Danny back. Know that they knew he was alive, they knew for sure that Hayley and Jesse were alive. They just hoped they weren’t being subjected to the same type of punishment that Danny had.
“Mr and Mrs Smith. Wait!” A voice called them as they walked closer to their small car. They turned. It was inspector Malcolm.
            “What’s wrong?” Maggie asked.
“I’m not sure if Danny told you or not. The reason he was found?” It suddenly hit all three of them. No, Danny had been really hesitant when it came to talking about how he arrived at Ovid.
“He didn’t.” Maggie replied.
“He was arrested. He was caught with another two boys breaking into a car store. He was supposed to be standing guard.”
“What do you mean by supposed?” Jim asked hesitantly, suspiciously.
“He was high. He’s been smoking pot. A lot by the looks of it. We found a stash of them in his trousers.” Maggie gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. She knew this would be another thing they’d have to tackle with Danny before he got back to normal. If he ever got back to normal.
“Right. Thanks for letting us know.” Jim replied, seeing as his wife couldn’t do the job of speaking yet.
“He’ll have to attend a trial about the attempted theft. There’s not much they can prosecute over, so he should come clean. He’s on bail. An anonymous donor.” Malcolm informed.
            “Right. What date?” Jim asked.
“We’re not too sure, I’ll call you with the details. Would you like to know the results of your son’s x-ray scans?”
“Yes, please.” Jim answered, looking at the inspector intensly.
“There are some obvious signs of torture. Judging from the scans he’s sustained many fractures over the last year, mainly on the arms. He’s broken a few ribs, it looks like on of his ankles have been broken at some point too. They’ve all healed, thankfully, with no after effects. The nurse said that he did complain about his wrists being painful at points, but the nurse said that would pass soon. The x-ray to his head showed some fractures in the skull. They think this is the reason why he lost his memory. The nurse said his memory should return in about a month, if things go well and he doesn’t hit his head hard again.”
“Right. Thanks for that.” Jim said.
“I’ll be seeing you then. Keep an eye on him. It looks like even though he doesn’t remember it; the torture still has some effect on him. He needs family now more than ever.” The inspector said as he let the family.
The family slowly turned around. All three of them knew that there would be a battle to fight. A hard one. They all just hoped that they’d all come back in one piece. Maybe this battle would be the fight that brought them all back together again. Or it could be the battle that tore them all apart.
Only the future held the answers.

So that's it. I'm quite undecided about what I'm going to put into the next chapter. I'll find something eventually though.

So, I'm also going to see Eclipse tomorrow. The way I figure it, I can't really hate on it unless I've seen it. :D I'm not that interested. Maybe I'll post a review about it. You never know, I might like it. I doubt it though.

Anyway, I'm off to bed... It's been a long day...

Night!
